Are we capable of making a difference in the world?
I spoke to Green Peace activists today. One of them - a girl - actually started crying. 'Nobody cares! I tried stopping and talking to so many people! I don't ask them for anything, just want them to know...the Great Barrier Reef could be devastated and nobody cares.'
I felt so bad. I was also in a hurry but could not believe that no one EVER seems to care about the important things in life. We are all digging deep in our own holes, looking down, and letting life pass us by while at the same time politicians do with us and our world whatever they want.
Well, I decided to try and make a difference. This here is my attempt to fight the world. So, join me! Prove to me that it's possible! That our voices CAN be heard!
Read through the links, watch the videos, sign my petition and spread the word! Let's make it happen! And if we lose this battle, I am ready to give up and denounce humanity one last time.
The Great Barrier Reef is in danger! Sign my petition here!

Is Your Diet...CRUEL?
Buried in problems, politics, poverty, disasters or mere oblivion we forget to look around and land a hand to those around us. What's left for the other inhabitants of our planet. NO time left! Everyone for himself.
I remember watching this film years ago, called Earthlings. It's narrated by none other than Joaquin Phoenix. I was devastated. But time goes by and we tend to forget. So here is a good reminder. I know I did what I could. I still learn and I still err. But I know one thing for sure. Doing nothing is not an option. So, dear friends, this is the painful truth. I loaded it to my dropbox especially for you. Watch it, think about it, spread the word and become less egocentric and more compassionate. It doesn't take much!
Stay cruelty-free, positive, healthy and informed! And if you do want to be healthy and cruelty-free, here's a piece of information that can help you eat better.

Genetically Modified Salmon? Now This Too?
I decided to re-post this article, so that you could be more informed. Spread the word, make your voice heard! Do something! YOU are an important part of today's world! YOU have the power to spread messages, participate in protests, inform yourself and others around you! DO IT!
Here is a powerful website, where the brightest minds of today write: Nation of Change
That's where I read this:
While you were likely resting or enjoying time with friends and family over the Christmas break, the United States Food and Drug Administration was hard at work ramming through genetically modified salmon towards the final acceptance process. Despite the frankenfish actually being blocked by Congress last year over serious health and environmental concerns, the FDA is making a massive push to release the genetically modified salmon into the world as the FDA-backed biotech giant and creator of the fish AquaAdvantage screams for profits.
These fish of course threaten the very genetic integrity of the food chain when considering the fact that they will ultimately be unleashed into waters with other salmon and likely even the ocean at large. The AquaAdvantage genetically modified salmon have been engineered through genetic manipulation to grow double the size and weight of the average salmon. Hitting 24 inches instead of 13 and weighing in at 6.6 pounds instead of 2.8, the GM fish contains both a gene from another salmon known as the Pacific Chinook as well as an eel-like fish.
This unnatural genetic infusion allows the fish to generate a growth hormone 24/7, making it a massively mutated ball of growth hormones and disease.
Genetically Modified Salmon Threaten Genetic Stability of Food Chain In the event that awareness is not spread and Congress allows the FDA to approve AquaAdvantage’ GM salmon, it will become the first approved GM animal for growth and human consumption.
Modified salmon will mate with regular breeds, creating hybrid mutations that may likely never be tracked. Hybrid families that may continue to repopulate for generations, all containing modified genes. After being consumed by predators like sharks or others, the sharks are then affected by the genetically modified fish through the development of various health conditions conditions. In mice trials alone it was found that eating GMOs triggered mass tumors and early death in the animals — and that’s just crops. Genetically modified crops are concerning enough, but are much less complex than animals.
The fact of the matter is that no one truly knows the long term effects of GM crops, let alone GM animals. But hey, why not test it out on the public? After all, who cares? It’s not like the FDA will do anything to Monsanto despite the numerous studies linking GMOs to disease. Instead, they just say it’s pseudo science and that only FDA-backed ‘science’ is worth anything. Forget the fact that the only lifelong rat study done on GMOs found it led to tumor development.
So what can we do?
There are a number of methods here, but first and foremost the word needs to be spread far and wide that genetically modified salmon is being pushed through by the FDA. People despise GM products on average, with 90 plus percent in favor of at least labeling. In addition, there is a petition going around to send to politicians to ask them to stop this approval as they did in 2011.
Ultimately, it comes down to opposition. If enough people know this is coming and are very upset about it, they will have trouble ramming it through. That’s why they announce these things over Christmas weekend. They don’t want anyone to even hear about it — they want to make it harder to popularize since hardly anyone saw it.
We can beat this as we did back in 2011, and the FDA knows it. Their dirty tactics are not effective in the technological age in which the transfer of information is more powerful than ever. Share this news and spread the word. Block genetically modified salmon from getting put on your dinner table without any labels.

White Fish Thai Curry - the easy way!
Fancy Thai?
Too intimidated by the complexity?
Here's a simple amazingness:
Thai coconut fish curry
- 10 shrimp (optional)
- 500 gr white fish (any flaky type)
- green beans (a handful)
- 1 med size onion
- 1 green or red pepper
- a coffee cup size rice
- 1/2 can of coconut milk
- 3 kaffir lime leafs (they add so much aroma! Try to find them. If you can't make sure you have tons of lime)
1. Steam the rice. You probably have your way. I wash it, put it with 2:1 water : rice on the stove until the water boils. Once it starts boiling I add a cube of vege stock and salt, cover and lower the heat to MIN. Then let it absorb the water. Don't open it at all for 20-40 minutes. (depends on the rice)
2. Quickly sauté the fish fillets. I add a bit of olive oil to a deep non-stick pan. Just a touch of oil. I add the fish and cook it 5 minutes on each side (depends on the thickness. Thinner pieces require less. )
3. Cook the chopped onions, peppers and green beans simultaneously for 6-7 minutes until they are soft. NOT burned (lower heat)
4. Once the veges are soft, add SLOWLY 1/2 can of coconut milk. Make sure the heat is at MEDIUM or the coconut milk will curdle and then it's not pretty. I added even 100ml of water, to reduce the heat and increase the sauce without increasing the fat. Add salt, the lime leaves cut in halves, (I had saffron so I added a bit but it's not that important), lime juice and a dash or two of garlic powder. Let the sauce thicken together with the veges for about 7-8 minutes while constantly stirring.
5. Add the fish in and flake it within the pan, so it absorbs and infuses with the sauce. (I has a few pre-cooked shrimp so I added them in too).
6. Is the rice ready by now?
7. Like spicy? I cooked for my wife and son who ARE NOT fans of spicy food, so I just added a chilli pepper to my plate but you can chop yours inside if you are brave enough.
8. Mix the curry with the rice, garnish with a couple of roasted cashew nuts or peanuts if you have them and ENJOY! I loved it with light beer, and alkA had it with red wine. To each his own!
Let me know if yours came out ok!

Our Daily Poison
Define food!
Don't do it for me, do it for yourself. What is the reason we shop, cook, taste, learn, socialise, dine, etc.? No matter how you put it, food is our source of energy. Therefore, food = life. Easy enough, as No food = No life!
But something we all forget from time to time is that food is an external object that we allow into our body. Often without much thought, we take a strawberry, a biscuit or a peanut and faithfully inject it into our own core. And we do it on the basis of two main aspects of blind faith: 1. That what we put in our mouth is actually FOOD (meaning a source of energy, rather than a substance to fill our stomachs and fool us that we're not hungry any more) and 2. That IF it is harmful in a way, or contains harmful substances, our body will be clever enough to get rid of what hurts us and only keep the good stuff.
But we are often wrong in both beliefs together. And the result is: disease. And unfortunately today it is SO difficult to stay away from disease, that every single one of us knows or loves somebody that is suffering or dying from incurable diseases. What happened with cancer? I distinctly remember how terrified I was of AIDS. Now all of a sudden, I don't hear about it anymore. Somehow it's under control? All of a sudden people live with it? But whatever happened with cancer? Have you ever been more exposed to news of cancer than today? It's everywhere I turn. I've lost friends and I've lost relatives. And I know that when I was growing up it just wasn't that common!!!
I myself explain it to a large portion with one thing: Our Daily Poison! And whilst I may add stress to the list of daily poisons, I may say that we have less control over stress but can have much more control over what we put in our bodies.
Why is it that McDonalds hamburgers last forever? Did you know? Why is it that I bought baby spinach two weeks ago and forgot about it in my fridge and today it was perfectly fresh, crispy and not a single leaf had gone bad? Why do tomatoes seem to go for a month before they go bad? And lettuce? And why do I get such a powerful stomach-ache every time I eat (accidently) Chinese garlic? If you still don't know what I'm saying is it's that they are simply not food! They are poisonous enough that no other creature (fungus, microbes, or pests while in the field) would touch them!
Why is there aluminium in drinking water? Why is fluoride added to drinking water and toothpaste when it's detrimental to health? (and don't try and get picky with me on the links I post here, because I don't wanna load you with scientific papers) Why do they want to vaccinate babies IN UTERO??? This is not a joke! I have received an e-mail inviting me to a seminar, discussing exactly that!
You get my point. And I'm afraid we are caught in a trap. Genetically modified corn, meat and eggs stuffed with antibiotics (not to even mention the suffering and torture animals have to endure before they are slaughtered), fish full of poisonous deadly radioactive mercury (in addition to the devastation of marine life...do you eat tuna for example? WATCH The End of the Line - type the name in the search box here and watch the movie!!! Please do it!
I know, my friends, there is no escape...but what I suggest you do is 1. Educate yourself on those harms and be mindful when you make your choices. If not for yourselves, then at least for your children. And 2. TRY! Buy organic whenever you can, because drugs are more expensive down the line. Avoid anything plastic, as much as possible! Bags, boxes, bottles! And 3. Whenever you have the opportunity, voice your opinion! Share, educate others, participate in debates, in elections, in policy formations or merely support the ones who do. This is all we can do in order to try and stay healthy to the best of our ability. Or else, we doom ourselves and our children to disease and misery. If not today, then surely 20 years down the line. And as many of you may not know what it's like in a care clinic for elderly, some day I'll tell you about my experience of a 12-hour night shift as a nurse in such a unit. I gotta tell you...it made me think.
Stay healthy and think about this next time you choose where to buy your food. Will it be your food or your poison!?

Leaving my band
I am filled with mixed feelings as I officially announce that I leave my band - BFH - for good now. There were lots of great times that we shared...
Here are a couple of great photos to commemorate this event. You can also see our last concert under the 'Music' tab.

Real Life Photography
In my
photography lately I have decided to take a new approach: Simplicity. I
rarely arrange, instagram, crop, or exaggerate my photos. With everyone
going for glamour, effect and quality lately, I am getting sick and
tired of all the magazine-cover imitation over-arranged photos.
Honestly, some blogs out there disgust me with their pretence and
attitude! I am even convinced that albeit better cameras might be nice,
they are not necessary. I am doing just fine with our good old Panasonic
Lumix and don't feel like I need anything more yet. Additionally,
Brisbane offers such a plethora of colors and shapes that there is
nothing more I could ask for.
Simplicity
is true beauty! So shed your Instragrams, Photoshops, and Picnics and
enjoy the simple pleasures of real life without pretence! And here is
one more advice: find the beauty in the detail!
